You’ve said it five times, your voice is getting louder, and they still haven’t moved.
What’s usually happening
Often your child is busy in their own world and hasn’t really heard you yet. Sometimes they’re testing whether you mean it. Either way, more words and more volume usually teach them to wait for the yell.
Try this
- 1Walk over and get close before you give the instruction.
- 2Say it once, calmly, and have them repeat it back.
- 3Follow through the same way every time, without a lecture.
What to say
- “Look at my eyes, please.”
- “I’m going to say it one time. Shoes on, then we go.”
- “Can you tell me what I just asked you to do?”
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, because this is right.
Inside the membership, the full plan walks you through calm, connection, correction, and mend for listening at every age.
